For Boys & Families

For Boys and Families

Growing up isn’t easy—and no one should have to do it alone. Boys to Men Mentoring Hawaiʻi supports boys and their families by providing positive male role models, strong peer connections, and safe spaces for boys to learn, grow, and be themselves. Our programs are designed to complement what families already provide, offering additional guidance and support during the important middle and high school years.

Through weekly group mentoring at school, outdoor Adventure Weekends, and meaningful Rites of Passage experiences, boys build confidence, communication skills, and a sense of responsibility. They learn how to talk about challenges, make healthy choices, and understand the impact of their actions on themselves and others. Boys are encouraged to discover their strengths and develop respect for themselves, their families, and their communities.

Families often tell us they see positive changes at home and at school—improved communication, greater accountability, stronger relationships, and increased self-confidence. Boys to Men Mentoring Hawaiʻi works in partnership with parents, caregivers, and schools, keeping families informed and involved while honoring each family’s values and culture.

Our programs are grounded in respect for people and place, thoughtfully incorporating local and Hawaiian values such as kuleana (responsibility), mālama (care), and aloha. Most importantly, boys are surrounded by caring adults who believe in them and walk alongside them as they grow into young men.

If you are looking for a supportive community where your son can be challenged, encouraged, and supported, Boys to Men Mentoring Hawaiʻi offers a pathway for growth—one relationship at a time.

Student FAQ

Boys to Men is a place where guys come together to talk, learn, and grow. You meet weekly with a small group of boys and adult mentors who are there to listen, support you, and help you become the man you want to be.

No. This isn’t a class and it’s not therapy. There are no grades and you won’t be lectured. It’s more like a circle where you get to talk honestly, hear from others, and learn real-life skills.

You sit in a circle with other guys and mentors. You check in, talk about what’s going on in your life, and do activities or discussions about things like respect, choices, confidence, and responsibility. What’s shared in the group stays in the group.

You’re encouraged to speak, but no one will force you. Most guys find that once they feel comfortable, it gets easier to share.

Adventure Weekends are outdoor experiences where you work as a team, face challenges, and spend time in nature. You’ll do activities that build confidence, leadership, and trust—while having fun and getting out of your comfort zone.

This is a special experience for older guys. It’s a chance to think seriously about who you are, what you care about, and the kind of man you want to become. Mentors support you through challenges and reflection.

Yes. Safety is important to us. Mentors are trained, and activities are planned carefully. You’ll always know what’s happening and who to go to if you need help.

No. All Boys to Men programs are 100% free for you and your family.

That’s totally okay. Most guys don’t know anyone at first. The group is designed to help you feel welcomed and supported.

Because it helps to have people in your corner. Boys to Men gives you a place to be yourself, learn from others, and build confidence for school, family, and life.

Ask your school counselor, teacher, or family—or have them contact Boys to Men Mentoring Hawaiʻi for more information.
